Nizhny Novgorod plans to set up state-of-the-art ski ramp

A new ski complex is expected to appear in Nizhny Novgorod no later than 2014. Anton Averin, Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region discussed the plans for the building of the state of the art sports complex.

The complex will contain three ski ramps. 9.4 hectares will be allocated to the 3 storey facility, and the highest point of the ski ramp will be 68.4 metres, with the longest part of the start-up run being 105.5 metres. There have never been any prototypes like this in the region. Indeed, throughout the country there are not many at all, which is why the project is being overseen by an Austrian company. The project has already been approved, and all agreements have been signed, says NNTV.

"The facility is extremely important. It will give us the opportunity to hold championships of practically any level. It is a significant project for both the town and the whole region. The old ski-ramps have become unsuitable," said Averin.

The building work is planned to be finished by April 2014, but they hope to be able to finish work by the 3^rd quarter of 2013. The plans are ambitious but the government said that they are entirely realistic.

The project costs around 2.5bn rubles. In the meantime, athletes must simply wait until the new ski-ramp appears. With this ramp, it will be possible for people not only to train there, but also to hold championships at any level in the facility. Anton Averin said that for the ski-ramp to be realised, they required the experience of their Austrian colleagues. Upon its completion, the ski-ramp will meet all demands for the staging of world championships.
