Troops opened fire on a speeding car that failed to stop at a checkpoint outside Beirut international airport, killing one person and injuring another.
Troops fired warning shots, but the vehicle, a Mercedes Benz taxi, did not stop. Soldiers then aimed at the passengers, killing one and injuring the other, police said speaking on customary condition of anonymity.
The shooting occurred as Lebanon, particularly Beirut, was tense following four bombings in the last eight days and concerns about additional attacks as Lebanese troops battle Islamic militants at a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon.
