Afghanistan: flood leaves 15 dead, dozens houses destroyed

Fifteen people are left dead and dozens houses are destroyed by flood in Afghanistan, caused by heavy rains, official said Friday.

Floods killed 12 people in Baharak district of Badakhshan province on Thursday, said Shamsu Rahman, the province's deputy governor.

In nearby Jurm district, three people were found dead, said Osman Abuzar, the head of the region's Red Crescent society.

Dozens of mud houses were also destroyed, and authorities sent heavy equipment to clear the damage, Rahman said.
