Police investigate possible link between missing helicopter and Chelsea-Liverpool match

Police and rescue services were searching Wednesday for a private helicopter that disappeared on a flight from Liverpool overnight.

Cambridgeshire Police said they were investigating possible links between the helicopter and the Chelsea-Liverpool match Tuesday night, but a Chelsea spokesman said none of the club's directors was involved.

Faye Adkin, of Carter and Carter Group of Nottingham, said the helicopter was carrying businessman Phillip Carter, the pilot and two or three passengers.

Simon Greenberg, Chelsea's director of public affairs, said no club directors were involved. Club owner Roman Abramovich was away on business and did not attend the match, which Liverpool won 4-1 on penalties.

"Police are currently searching for a helicopter which has gone missing in an area just north of Peterborough," police said.

"The force control room was called just before 1:45 a.m. today to report that the helicopter had failed to land at a private residence."
