Police officer kills wife and daughter with grenade and automatic fire in Dagestan

A traffic police officer tossed grenades and opened fire with a rifle at his home during a family quarrel, killing his wife and daughter before his son-in-law shot him dead, law enforcement authorities in southern Russia's Dagestan region said Monday.

Police Lt. Col. Abdulla Abdullayev, a former chief of traffic police in the regional capital Makhachkala, threw two grenades into a room and then fired shots with a hunting rifle late Sunday, city police headquarters chief Shamil Guseynov said.

Abdullayev's wife and an adult daughter were killed. His son, another daughter and his son-in-law were injured, he said.

The son-in-law, also a police officer, fatally shot him with his service pistol, Guseynov said, reports AP.

Police said the attack resulted from a family argument, but they did not say what it was about.
