Serbia-Montenegro: woman injured in train crash dies in hospital

A woman critically injured in Montenegro's fatal train crash died Friday in hospital, bringing the death toll in this week's accident to 46, officials said. Slobodanka Joksimovic, 57, from the northern town of Bijelo Polje, died in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Podgorica, the Montenegrin capital, hospital spokeswoman Jelena Pavicevic said.

The crash Monday one of the deadliest European train accidents in the past 30 years initially killed 44 people and injured 198. A baby died Thursday, after being delivered prematurely after injuries in the crash induced labor in a woman passenger.

At least 300 passengers, many of them schoolchildren returning from a ski trip, were on the train when it ran out of control late Monday afternoon and plunged into a 100-meter-deep (330-foot-deep) ravine of the Moraca River canyon.

Some 103 injured passengers remained hospitalized Friday, including a dozen reported in critical condition. Five children were among those killed and 32 among the injured.
