Unknown assailants opened fire on the home of a police chief in the troubled Russian Caucasus region of Ingushetia late Tuesday, regional law enforcement officials said.
No one was hurt in the attack on the Dzhabrail Kostoyev's house, outside Ingushetia's main city, Nazran, the Ingush Interior Ministry said. Kostoyev is police chief for the Nazran region.
Ingushetia is one of several southern Russian regions that has long been plagued by endemic corruption and violence - some of it stemming from criminal gang feuds and some spilling over from the separatist conflict in nearby Chechnya, AP reports.
