Two Jordanian air force planes collide

Two Royal Jordanian Air Force planes collided in mid air during training on Tuesday, killing two pilots, an army spokesman confirmed

A third pilot survived the crash, which ocurred at 0615 GMT, the spokesman pointed out.

The spokesman would not say whether the third pilot managed to eject from his stricken aircraft and whether he was an instructor.

The two planes were Kasa trainers built in Spain.

The cause of the collision was under investigation.

The state Petra news agency, said the two aircraft were on a "training mission," but provided no other details.

The spokesman declined to say where the crash took place. But air force training is mainly conducted in the center of Jordan between Zarqa and the Dead Sea, whose western edge is shared by Israel and the West Bank, the AP reports.
