Bombs explode at court buildings in three Bangladesh towns: killing two people

Authorities ordered extra police and paramilitary patrols in key places around the country on Tuesday after several bombs exploded at court buildings in three Bangladesh towns killing two people and wounding several others.

Police arrested at least six suspects Monday at the bomb sites in Chandpur, Laxmipur and Chittagong, police said. Handwritten statements calling for Islamic rule were found on some of the suspects, police spokesman Mahmudul Kabir said.

"We are thoroughly investigating to find out who was behind these bomb attacks," Kabir said.

Police suspect the attacks on Monday were carried out by Islamic militants who have been blamed for a series of bombings in recent months, he said in a statement.

The bombs were carried inside the courtrooms hidden inside large books, he said.

In the city of Chandpur, 65 kilometers (40 miles) east of Dhaka, a 60-year-old man was killed and a lawyer was seriously wounded when two bombs went off at a court building, a police officer said on condition of anonymity. Police arrested two suspects at the scene, he added, reports the AP. I.L.
