Israeli aircraft fired missiles in Gaza

Israeli aircraft fired missiles at three targets in the northern Gaza Strip early Tuesday, striking access routes used by Palestinian militants to fire rockets into Israel, the army said.

Palestinian officials said one missile destroyed a bridge near the town of Beit Hanoun. There were no immediate reports of injuries or further damage.

Later Tuesday, a helicopter fired a missile in the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis. Palestinian witnesses said the missile landed in an open field and did not explode. The army had no comment. Israel launched an offensive against Palestinian militants over the weekend following a barrage of rocket attacks fired from Gaza at Israeli towns.

The offensive comes just two weeks after Israel completed its pullout from the Gaza Strip after a 38-year occupation. A series of airstrikes have killed four militants and destroyed suspected weapons facilities throughout Gaza during the operation, AP reports.
