American soldier killed in Baghdad with bomb

A roadside bomb killed a U.S. Army soldier whose convoy was patrolling Baghdad, the military said Saturday.

The explosion occurred Friday night in a southeastern part of the capital, the military said in a brief statement. The name of the soldier was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The attack raised to at least 1,913 the number of U.S. military members who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, AP reports.
