Senior police commander shot dead in Baghdad

A gunmen killed a senior police officer in eastern Baghdad Monday, as insurgents kept up their attacks on members of Iraq's security forces.

Brig. Gen. Numan Salman Faris, director of Azamiyah district rapid response force, was shot by gunmen in eastern Baghdad, police Maj. Thamir Al-Sadir said. He gave no further details, the AP reports.

Insurgents frequently target senior officers of Iraq's security forces, whom they regard as collaborators with the occupation forces.
