German police investigating a woman accused of killing nine children of her own is searching her former homes to find out whether there are more corpses.
The 39-year-old, identified only as Sabine H., was arrested Sunday on suspicion of manslaughter after police found the nine tiny bodies buried in flower pots and a fish tank in the garden of her parent's home in the village of Brieskow-Finkenherd, near the Polish border.
In addition to searching the areas around apartments where the woman once lived, tests were being done on the bodies to determine cause of death and paternity, police spokesman Peter Salender said.
Police were also talking with friends and family to try to determine how the pregnancies and the babies' bodies could have gone unnoticed for so long, Salender said. Prosecutors said the woman would also undergo psychological testing.
According to prosecutors, the woman had moved the pots - planted with well-cared-for flowers - with her from one apartment to the next, and finally deposited them outside her parents' home about two years ago.
Prosecutor Annette Bargenda said Tuesday that the woman cracked under questioning and acknowledged she hadn't wanted the children. Asked why she didn't put them up for adoption the woman replied, "That would have been too embarrassing," Bargenda said.
The woman, an unemployed dental assistant, believed the infants were born between 1988 and 1999 and were all fathered by her ex-husband, with whom she has three adult children. The woman also has a young daughter whose father is unclear, the AP reports.
