Suicide bomber killed 7 people, at least 20 were injured in Srinagar, the summer capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir state. The blast occurred in an elite neighborhood of Srinagar near a school.
The bomber rammed an explosives-laden Maruti 800 hatchback car into an army jeep Wednesday, sparking a blast that killed five soldiers, a civilian and himself near in of Indian Kashmir's capital, police said.
The injured were taken to hospital where some of them were in serious condition.
The bomber’s car followed the army jeep and rammed into it from behind outside the home of the state's Chief Justice S.N. Jha and close to the Burnhall School, one of the state's most popular.
The body of the attacker was not yet found, but police believed it was blown to pieces.
"The earth shook and all the window panes were shattered. I was inside and I rushed out. There was smoke everywhere. I saw the bodies," an unidentified witness told the private Channel 7 channel.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack took place 50 metres (yards) from a Christian missionary school, which put up a sign on its closed gate reading: "All students are safe". Worried parents had rushed to the school asking about their children, reports Reuters.
The blast, which partially damaged a four-storey office building, took place near a high-security zone where several ministers from the Jammu and Kashmir state government live.
The attack was conducted by a suspected Muslim militant, says Reuters.
