Drunken pilots?!

Two former America West pilots were convicted Wednesday of being drunk in the cockpit after an all-night drinking binge.

They face up to five years in prison on the charge of operating an aircraft while drunk. Both men bowed their heads when the verdict was read after a two-week trial and jury deliberations over parts of two days.

Police ordered the plane to turn back and arrested the pilots after security screeners smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Hughes, and Cloyd got in an argument over his attempts to bring aboard a cup of coffee, reports ABC News.

According to the USA Today, The pilots' saga began July 1, 2002, when Cloyd and Hughes showed up at Miami International Airport for their 10:30 a.m. flight to &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/world/2002/12/19/41040.html ' target=_blank>Phoenix after drinking and playing pool at a Miami bar until 5 a.m. Officers at the security checkpoint said that they smelled alcohol on the pilots. A Breathalyzer test later found Cloyd had a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.09% and Hughes more than 0.08%. Florida defines intoxication as a level of 0.08%.
