After a frantic &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/printed.html?news_id=11189 ' target=_blank>911 call from a hysterical woman, San Francisco police found a 12-year-old boy mauled to death by the family's &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/accidents/21/96/383/10626_dog.html ' target=_blank>pit bulls in their apartment near Golden Gate Park on Friday.
Police arrived at the small apartment building on Lincoln Way to find one of the two dogs -- a fawn-colored female -- blocking the entrance to the apartment. An officer shot it dead to gain entry, San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens said.
Once inside, paramedics attempted to resuscitate the boy but failed, reports the Mercury News.
The male dog responsible for the attack was captured when police went to the home after being called by the boy's mother. The family's other pit bull, a female, was shot dead after it tried to prevent police from entering the house, Tully said.
The fatal mauling was the second in San Francisco in recent years.
