Hurricane Adrian, the Pacific's first named &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/comp/2002/09/27/37355.html ' target=_blank>tropical storm this season, hit Central America Thursday, killing at least 2 and forcing thousands to evacuate their homes.
The hurricane gained force on Thursday afternoon and headed directly for the coast. The ensuing heavy rains led to floods and mudslides in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
Two deaths and two injuries have so far been reported in Honduras, and the country's government has declared a state of emergency, informs the China Broadcast.
In 1998, Hurricane Mitch killed about 10,000 people in &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/accidents/2001/11/06/20184.html ' target=_blank>Central America, mainly in Honduras and Nicaragua, with mudslides and flooding. Hurricane Adrian's approach brought fears of a similar disaster.
"We are all worried, people are scared because we all lost something with Mitch," said housewife Maria Esperanza in Guatemala's Puerto San Jose.
