Russian Embassy car set on fire in Sweden; group claims responsibility

A car belonging to the Russian Embassy in Stockholm was set ablaze and a group protesting Russia's involvement in Chechnya claimed responsibility, police said Wednesday. No one was injured.

The car, which was parked on a street near the embassy, went up in flames on Tuesday afternoon, Stockholm police spokesman Ove Naeslund said.

The fire was deliberately set and an organization called "Global Intifada" claimed responsibility, Naeslund said.

"They said it was a protest against the war in Chechnya," he said, adding that police had no details on the group.

In Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned Swedish ambassador Johan Molander to discuss the incident.

Police experts were examining the charred vehicle.
