A hand grenade exploded Monday at a courtroom in southern Sri Lanka, killing at least two people and wounding about 35 others, police and a doctor said.
The motive for the blast at the Magistrate's Court in Embilipitiya town remained unclear, a policewoman from the area said. Police were investigating, she said.
H.M Dharmadasa, doctor at Embilipitiya Base Hospital, said two people died and that one of the injured was in serious condition.
Embilipitiya is about 175 kilometers (110 miles) southeast of the capital, Colombo.
