US has not compensated family of Ukraine journalist killed in Baghdad

The relatives of Taras Protsyuk, a television journalist who was killed in Iraq on April 8, 2003, have not been compensated by American authorities, and official Washington has not yet responded to inquiries from Kiev. Konstantin Grishchenko, Ukraine's foreign minister, raised the matter in a telephone conversation with US envoy John Herbst, a Rosbalt correspondent was told by the ministry press service.

Protsyuk died in Baghdad as a result of fire from an American tank at the Palestine Hotel, where most foreign journalists covering the war against the Saddam Hussein regime were staying. According to the preliminary finding by the American side, the event was a regrettable incident in which the tank crew mistook the journalist's television camera for a grenade launcher.
