The three militants killed in Nazran (Ingushetia, a republic in the North Caucasus bordering Chechnya) were members of the so-called Wahhabi dzhamaat Caliphate and were active members of Abudzeit, a bandit group, Colonel Ilya Shabalkin, a spokesman for the Regional Operational Headquarter for anti-terrorist operations in the North Caucasus, told RIA Novosti.
"The group was eliminated by the FSB and Interior Ministry task force during a special operation to detain active members of the Abudzeit bandit group," Col. Shabalkin said.
According to him, two of the dead bandits have been identified as Mussa Khashiyev, the so-called emir of the Wahhabi dzhamaat, and Mairbek Magamadov, an active member of the illegal armed group.
"Earlier, Khashiyev trained at a camp run by Hattab, a dead Arab mercenary, and was on the federal wanted list for killing a policeman in Troitskaya in 2002 and for planning terrorist attacks in Chechnya and Ingushetia," said the spokesman.
The third bandit has not been identified yet.
A source at the Ingush Interior Ministry told RIA Novosti that yesterday a special operation to detain members of illegal armed units was conducted in Nazran.
"When the task force surrounded the house, where the suspects were hiding, the militants fired automatic weapons at the servicemen," the source said. The servicemen returned fire and killed three militants. "The FSB servicemen and the Interior Ministry troops did not receive any injuries," the source from the ministry said.
At the site of the incident, the servicemen found a Kalashnikov assault rifle, an AK sub-machinegun, a Makarov pistol and a F-1 grenade.
