Fire on polluks reefer extinguished

The fire on the Polluks reefer was extinguished in the Sea of Okhotsk on Sunday night, the Vladivostok service overseeing the fishing fleet told RIA Novosti.

The crewmen of the Predanny rescue vessel took part in the extinguishing effort. The rescuers pumped water out of the reefer's flooded departments. The angle of heel is 10-12 degrees at the moment.

The fire damaged the ship's upper works housing crewmen's cabins, the chartroom and storage rooms. The Predanny and the Arktur trawler remain to be anchored near the damaged vessel.

The rescuers have suspended the effort for poor weather conditions. As soon as the weather changes they will get back aboard the reefer to examine it thoroughly.

The owner of the ship will decide what to do with the ship.

The fire broke out on Thursday. The ship signalled its distress at 11.40 Moscow time. In the early hours of Friday, the 26 crewmen were evacuated on board the Sakhalin-registered trawler Aniva.
