Policeman killed and his submachine-gun stolen in Chechnya

On Tuesday evening bandits killed inspector of the local interior department Khazhiyev and heavily wounded his son in the Staropromyslovsky district of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, RIA Novosti was told on Wednesday at the Chechen interior ministry.

"At 8.30 p.m., Moscow time four criminals in a camouflage uniform and masks burst into Khazhiyev's house, killed him and heavily wounded his son by a submachine-gun shot," a RIA Novosti interlocutor said.

According to him, the militants took away the policeman's submachine-gun and disappeared.

Criminals are now being searched for, the interior ministry reported.
