Russia appeals to Thailand for humanity to three Russian convicts

The Russian Foreign Ministry has appealed to the Thai authorities for showing humanity for three convicted Russians, one of which is sentenced to death, says the communique of the Press and Information Board of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

In August last year, a bank was robbed and a policeman killed in the resort city of Pattaya.

On Wednesday three Russian nationals have been convicted - Renat Kudoyarov, Marat Menlikeev and Felix Cheremnykh.

"We deeply regret the involvement of the Russian citizens in the crime", the Russian Foreign Ministry says.

"We hope that the Thai authorities will display humanity, consider the possibility of replacing the death sentence by imprisonment, and extradite the convicts for serving the sentence on the Russian territory", concludes the Russian Foreign Ministry.
