Staffers of FSB of Russia stemmed attempt to smuggle large lot of arms

Operatives of the FSB of Russia stemmed an attempt of contraband of a large lot of weapons by citizens of a Balkan country, the Public Relations Centre (TsOS) of the FSB of the Russian Federation reported.

The detained smugglers are involved in committing several grave crimes on the territory of a number of East-European states, the TsOS of the FSB of Russia said.

"The foreigners were detained as a result of a complex of counterintelligence and operational-search activities of the personnel of the FSB Department for Struggle against Terrorism," the TsOS representative said.

According to him, on October 27th during an inspection of an automobile driven by foreigners at the Troyebornoye border-crossing point in the Bryansk Region (the Central federal district) the FSB operatives and the officers of the customs terminal found firearms "in hidden spaces of a Volkswagen-Passat car". The operatives confiscated four Scorpion submachine guns, a model of the Czech-made CZ-6, three AK-47 submachine guns of Yugoslavian make, an UZI submachine gun of Israeli make, and an Argentine-made Colt pistol out of the caches equipped in the car.

The investigation department of the FSB directorate for the Bryansk Region opened a criminal case on the contraband movement of foreign-made weapons across Russia's customs border. The suspects of committing this crime were detained.
