Explosion in Grozny - 21 October, 2003

An explosion in the Leninsky district of Grozny hit several servicemen, according to preliminary information.

The blast went off at 9 am near Griboyedov street, spokesman for the Chechen interior ministry Ruslan Atsayev said Tuesday on the phone. Preliminary reports suggest a mine-sweeping operation was being conducted in the area at issue.

At present, an investigation group is working at the site, trying to establish the circumstances of the incident. Only preliminary information on the incident and its consequences is available so far, Atsayev said.
