Forest fires rampant in Kamchatka

Two forest fires are rampant in Kamchatka's Milkovsky region (RF Far East) on an area of over 200 hectares, RIA Novosti was told in the forest air protection service Friday.

Preliminary data show that damage from forest fires in the Kamchatka region in 2003 exceeded 20 mln rubles. Another 9.5 mln was spent on fire extinguishing.

Overall, 29,274 hectares of woods have burnt in the Kamchatka region since the start of the 'fire season'.
