Supreme Court of Russia left guilty verdict to Yuri Budanov in force

On Monday the military board of the Supreme Court of Russia left in force the guilty verdict given by the North-Caucasian district military tribunal to Yuri Budanov.

The court thereby rejected the appeal of the convict and his defence which insisted on reversal of the sentence.

On July 25, 2003 the North-Caucasian district military tribunal found former commander of the 160th tank regiment Yuri Budanov guilty of the murder of Chechen girl Elza Kungayeva in summer 2000 and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment in a strict-regime colony. The tribunal stripped Budanov of the service rank of Colonel and of the government award, the Order of Courage.
