Channel of marijuana supplies exposed in Chelyabinsk

Officers from the drug-combating department of the Southern Urals transport police have blocked a well-organized channel of marijuana deliveries to Chelyabinsk, the Urals.

According to a source in the information and public relations group of the transport police, a group of students based in the Chelyabinsk region devised a way of getting marijuana from the Chuisk district, neighboring Kazakhstan. At least two times a week, a "foreign courier" smuggled ordered quantities of the drug across the border river Ui. The students then sold the "goods" through a network of drug dealers, including some that hang around local nightclubs and discos. All in all, they used to sell about 10 kg of marijuana weekly.

The whole gang was arrested, as was the Kazakhstan-based drug supplier, who was captured with a quantity of marijuana on him.

Law enforcers have opened criminal cases involving several articles of the Russian Criminal Code, including drug sales, drug-smuggling, and illegal storage of weapons.
