Russian doctors save Indonesian sailor

An injured Indonesian sailor was taken to a hospital in the Chukot Autonomous Area from board the ship (Chukotka is in the northeast of Asian Russia and separated from Alaska by the Bering Strait/.

The FSB department in the Magadan Region (region adjoining to Chukotka from the south) said that the SOS signal had been registered on Tuesday. An Indonesian sailor on board a ship which flew the Vietnamese flag headed for the town of Anadyr (a seaport and an administrative center in Chukotka) was heavily injured.

The Magadan coastal service transferred the SOS signal to Anadyr. A specially equipped helicopter with doctors and four rescuers started off to rescue. Two hours later the helicopter landed in Anadyr and the sailor was taken to hospital.

Doctors were fighting for the sailor's life for two hours and a half. The surgical operation was successful. Several hours later he came to his mind. At present, according to the doctors' estimates, the sailor is out of danger.
