Failed suicide bomber was on drugs

A spokesman for the Regional HQ for the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus has announced that a woman who was killed yesterday, as she was preparing a terrorist attack in Grozny was on drugs.

According to the spokesman, a medical examination showed that she had signs of narcotics in her bloodstream.

The terrorist died in hospital on Tuesday. She had been taken there for treatment.

The HQ spokesman said that one of the reasons for her death was the overall depleted state of her body. This was aggravated by the presence of narcotics in her blood that then led to her heart stopping, he continued.

The identity of the would-be suicide bomber has also been established. She was 23-year-old Luiza Osmayeva, a native of Chechnya's Naursk region.

Law-enforcement agencies received information on Monday that a group of militants was preparing a terrorist attack in Grozny. An army lorry similar to one that was listed as missing was stopped at a checkpoint entering the city. The two men and a woman inside the cab put up armed resistance to a document check, but police managed to neutralise them. Both men were killed in the ensuing firefight, while the woman, who was wearing a belt packed with explosives, was wounded when she attempted to set the bomb off.
