Japanese sailor rushed to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky hospital

Teji Yashido, who serves as first mate to the captain of Japan's Fukuro Maru-63 seiner, was rushed by helicopter to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative center of the Kamchatka region in the Russian Far East.

The Japanese sailor was placed in the regional hospital's intensive-care ward, with medics listing him in serious condition, officials at the Kamchatka emergency hospital noted.

The captain of Fukuro Maru-63, which is now fishing in the Bering Sea, requested permission to enter the nearest Russian port because one of his crew members had developed serious health problems.

The Japanese captain's first mate, who is suffering from internal bleeding, was taken off the ship June 21 and rushed to Korf port aboard a motor boat. He was subsequently taken to a district hospital in the village of Tilichiki, Olyutorsky district, Koryak autonomous area.

After that, he was rushed to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
