Terrorist act prevented in Grozny - 23 June, 2003

A large-scale terrorist act was prevented in the Chechen capital Grozny.

At 15:00 Moscow time on Sunday, interior ministry officers checking on a report in Grozny's Oktyabrsky district discovered 28 bags of saltpeter, reported a source in the republic's Interior Ministry. According to the source, "the bags with saltpeter, a substance militants use to perform suicide terrorist acts on KAMAZ trucks, were found lying on the roof of a house." The substance weighed a total of 1,400 kg.

Terrorists were probably accumulating saltpeter to perform another large-scale terrorist act in Grozny, the source said.
