Large amounts of drugs seized while being smuggled from Turkey

Officers from the Russian Federal Security Service, or the FSB, have cut short a drug-smuggling attempt in the Krasnodar territory, a region on the Black Sea coast. The channel through which supplies of ephedrine were smuggled into the country from Turkey was revealed in the course of a large-scale operation, the local FSB department reported on Wednesday.

Two crew walking ashore from a ship that arrived from Turkey were arrested in the port of Novorossiisk with 40,000 ephedrine pills in their luggage. Some 600,000 pills were also found in their flats.

According to FSB reports, it is one of the largest batches of heavy drugs seized in Russia over the past 10 years.
