Sakhalin poachers resort to intimidation

The recent assault on the Military Prosecutor's Office in Yuzhnosakhalinsk (the administrative center on the island of Sakhalin washed by the Sea of Okhotsk) may be linked to the arrest of a poacher boat.

About two in the afternoon on Thursday, an unknown malefactor threw a Molotov cocktail at the premises of the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Federal Frontier Force in the Sakhalin Region, the Main Military Prosecutor's Office reported Friday.

The fire was prevented by the interior guard, rushed out upon hearing the alarm. The assailant fled as he saw the guards, leaving another Molotov cocktail behind.

According to the Main Military Prosecutor's Office, its Far-Eastern divisions have made energetic efforts lately to fight violations concerning marine biological resources.

For example, a poacher boat was arrested a couple days ago, and the deputy military prosecutor has been supervising the legal proceedings against the crew ever since.
