First malaria case has been registered in Russia's south this spring

The first malaria case has been registered in the town of Volzhsky, the Volgograd region /bordering on Kazakhstan in the east/ this spring.

A seasonal worker from Tajikistan, who arrived in the region some time ago, has been diagnosed with the disease, local state sanitary and epidemiological inspectors have reported.

Doctors detected the disease during an examination right after the worker's arrival. The patient has been taken to hospital.

The place where he lived and the neighbouring territories /with a total area of 7.5 hectares/ have been sanitized.
