A series of terrorist acts has been prevented in Chechnya

A series of terrorist acts have been prevented in Chechnya within the past twenty-four hours.

As the RIA Novosti correspondent was told on Wednesday in the Regional Operational Headquarters for controlling the anti-terrorist operation in the North Caucasus, the law enforcers had rendered harmless three home-made explosive devices which were found in different districts of the republic.

In the regional centre of Urus-Martan a home-made explosive device was found on the roof of a cafe on the local market. It consisted of a 152 mm-caliber artillery shell, an electric detonator, a storage battery and a radio station. The police took the device to a safe place and destroyed it.

In the course of special operations in the Chechen capital of Grozny a home-made explosive device was found in a dilapidated sheepfold. It consisted of a 152 mm artillery shell, two mines, 3.2 kilogrammes of TNT, a plastic bottle stuffed with bolts, screws and nails, two electric detonators and an electronic watch. The device has been destroyed.
