Terrorist attack averted in Grozny

As a result of the Russian Defence Ministry's special operation, Chechen headquarters of the so-called President of Independent Ichkeria (a name used by terrorists) Aslan Maskhadov were eliminated and an attempt of terrorists' attack on the capital of the republic Grozny was averted.

This was disclosed in the course of the press-conference in Moscow by Russian Defence Minister Sergey Ivanov.

According to him, one of this days at night in the rocky part of Chechnya a special detachment of the Russian Defence Ministry eliminated a terrorist formation. In the result of the operation many documents, belonging to Maskhadov, were confiscated. According to the documents stated the terrorists intended to conduct an attack on the capital of Chechnya Grozny on Tuesday, June 25.

In the course of this attack Maskhadov planned to use 1,000 terrorists.

Sergey Ivanov demonstrated a map, which was among the confiscated documents and was riddled with bullet holes after the battle. The map bore the marks, drawn personally by Maskhadov, of the terrorist groups shifts and objects of Federal forces, which were supposed to be eliminated.

The Russian Defence Minister also demonstrated the lists of the Chechen citizens, all in all 500 people, which were condemned by Maskhadov to death for their loyal behaviour towards the Russian actions, concerning the settlement of peace in Chechnya. Thus, the lists enrolled almost all heads of the regional administrations, the Chechen police and law enforcement officers and clergymen.
