Federal servicemen engaged in eliminating floods aftermath in Chechnya

12,000 servicemen of the Russian federal forces are engaged in eliminating effects of floods in Chechnya. Also, 50 units of heavy military hardware are involved, reports the military command. The floods have been touched off by torrential rains.

About 200 settlements are in the flooded zone, Vladimir Bulgakov, acting commander of the North Caucasian military district, told a press conference on Monday. In all, 44,000 houses have been partially flooded, 4,000 damaged or destroyed, over 200 motor and two railway bridges impaired. These are approximate figures because certain regions are to be reached yet, said the federal military leader.

In areas unhit by the floods militants continue making raids, noted the representative of the Russian military command.
