Terrorists involved in subversive activities caught in Chechnya

Two Chechens suspected of complicity in terrorist acts against federal officers were caught Friday in the Oktyabrsky District of Chechnya's capital, Grozny. A spokesman for the federal forces' regional headquarters says that one of the suspects, a 19-year-old resident of Grozny, is affiliated with the terrorist group that in May 2001 shelled a local hospital building where a federal police unit was then quartered. Several policemen were badly injured in the attack.

The other detainee, also a 19-year-old Grozny resident, is a rebel suspect, who contributed to the May 2001 attack on federal policemen, as well.

Operatives of the criminal investigation department of Grozny's Zavodskoi District have arrested one other Grozny resident, 18, wanted on murder charges. He is accused of slaying a 47-year-old Russian woman in a Grozny suburb in the spring of 2002. The police suspect the man of committing several more murders for ethnic motives.
