Georgia is aware of Georgian and Russian border breakthrough attempt by Chechen terrorists

The Georgian frontier guards do not exclude the possibility of a Russian-Georgian breakthrough attempt by Chechen terrorists from the Pankisi Gorge in Georgia.

However, the Georgian Frontier Guards along with their Russian colleagues are "getting ready for everything," Chairman of Georgian State Border Control Department General-Lieutenant Valery Tchekheidze said.

According to him, the frontier services of both countries held a meeting recently, in the course of which the situation was discussed, a plan of joint actions was drawn and reconnaissance was conducted. Joint Russian and Georgian frontier servicemen exercises are scheduled for next month, he said.

The Pankisi Gorge, where the Chechen sector of the Russo-Georgian border is located, shelters Chechen refugees, among whom there are many terrorists from Chechnya. Until recently Georgia denied information about the Chechen terrorists hiding in the country.
