Chechen terrorist surrenders to Turkish police

None of the hostages seized Saturday by an unidentified terrorist at the Mamara Hotel, in downtown Istanbul, has been injured. Reportedly, there are three Russian citizens among the hostages. The terrorist, a Chechen national, has been forced to surrender to the Turkish police, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports. On Saturday morning, the man took about 20 people hostage, demanding of the local authorities an opportunity to make a public statement on Chechnya. He reportedly had a Kalashnikov on him. No other details have yet been revealed.
