Russia Calls Upon Turkey To Neutralise Terrorists

Moscow hopes that Turkey will take the most resolute measures to neutralise in its territory extremist groups which render support to the Chechen terrorists. As the Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out, the latest incident in Turkey, connected with taking hostages /this time in one of the Turkish hotels/, arouses serious concern of the Russian side. More than once Moscow has drawn attention of the Turkish authorities to the possibility of such actions on the part of extremist individuals and groups. "Our repeated appeals to Ankara to stop the activity of such organisations have not been unfortunately met by the Turkish side," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated. Incidentally, the activity of these groups undermines Turkish authority on the international arena. The Foreign Ministry of Russia expressed the hope that Ankara would spare no effort to ensure safety of Russian institutions abroad and Russian citizens on Turkish territory. -O-(kos/ant) 25/04/01 10:39
