Armenians Of The Whole World Mark 86th Anniversary Of The Beginning Of Genocide In The Ottoman Empire

From the early morning on Tuesday hundreds of thousands of residents of Yerevan and of the adjacent areas went in a mournful procession to Tsitsernakaberd Hill in Yerevan where the memorial and museum of memory of the victims of genocide are situated. On this day divine services organised by the Young Turk government in memory of nearly 2 million Armenians who died in 1915 from genocide will be held in all the churches of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II with a group of hierarchs of the Church will make a pilgrimage to the Der-Zor desert in Syria where scores of thousands of old people, children and women, deported from Osmanli Turkey, died as martyrs. The present date is being marked against the background of the acknowledgement by a number of states of the fact of genocide at the beginning of last century. The parliaments of Russia, Greece, Belgium, Canada, Sweden, France and other states adopted resolutions condemning genocide of Armenians. And France, furthermore, formalised this legislatively. On the night of April 24 the youth organisation of the Armenian revolutionary federation (Dashnaktsutyun) organised a mass torch-light procession to the memorial of the victims of the tragedy.
