Chechnya: one terrorist killed in clash

One Chechen extremist was killed and another one detained in a clash between the police of the district interior department and an armed group of separatists in the village of Gekhi, the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya. The clash took place in the course of the operative measures for searching terrorists. On the outskirts of the village the police came under machine-gun and grenade-launcher fire and opened the return fire, killing one and detaining another militant. Investigation is going on to find out whether or not he was involved in committing other crimes. The police confiscated one pistol and two grenade-launchers. In the course of a raid in the Kurchaloyevsky district, the police confiscated five mirco-chips for radio-control land mines, 26 rounds for grenade-launchers, four grenades and 600 cartridges for assault-rifles. Yesterday, the units of the Joint Group of the Interior Ministry defused 22 explosive devices and confiscated 1,000 rounds of ammunition and 600 grammes of explosives.
