Participants In Chechnya Hostilities Detained In Baku

Members of a radical Islamic organisation who participated in hostilities in Chechnya have been detained in Baku, says a communique circulated on Wednesday by Azerbaijan's National Security Ministry. On the basis of operative information, the ministry detected and instituted criminal proceedings against 13 people and put another five on the wanted list. The Azeri security ministry has also found that another two of this group -- citizens of Azerbaijan -- died in hostilities in Chechnya and one in Abkhazia on October 15. Earlier, security minister Namik Abbasov reported that he has information on contacts between the organisation Revival of Islamic Heritage and terrorist groups. Now he insists on closure of the organisation in Baku. On October 11 a citizen of Egypt was detained in Baku and handed over to the Egyptian secret services. He is suspected of contacts with terrorists.
