Kursk Death Site Still Out-of-limits For Navigation

The death site of the sunken Kursk nuclear submarine will still be closed for navigation, said Vyacheslav Popov, commander of the Northern fleet. He spoke at a Sunday news conference in Murmansk of the press center of the international Kursk rescue task force. Popov said that the sub's first section and fragments still remain on the sea bottom. The region remains "closed on grounds of safety and, particularly, fish trawling is still unsafe." The protection perimeter will be made approximately 10 times narrower. Ships of the Russian Northern fleet will securely protect the set area, stressed the commander.
