Un Secretary General's Envoy Speaks Out Against Bringing Georgian Troops In Kodori Gorge

The United Nations Secretary General's envoy Dieter Boden comes out against bringing Georgian troops in the upper part of the Kodori Gorge controlled by Abkhazia, self-styled republic within Georgia, reads Mr. Boden's open letter to Levan Kubaneishvili, director of the news programme Moambe shown on the national television, which was circulated in Tbilisi Friday. The head of the UNOMIG mission in Georgia denies that he has allegedly supported an idea of sending Georgian troops to the Kodori Gorge, the news reported by Moambe programme. Under present, rather tense regional circumstances, such a step is inappropriate and runs counter the Moscow ceasefire agreement of May 14, 1994, emphasized Mr. Boden. Worse still, it can trigger further destabilization in the region, he said in the letter.
