Georgian Aggression Against Abkhazia

One serviceman was killed and three wounded as a result of Georgian air strikes at Abkhazian military units in the Naa settlement, Valery Arshba, Vice President of the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia, said on the telephone Tuesday. Abkhazia left Georgia and proclaimed independence in the early 1990s. According to him, Georgian bombing aircraft delivered an air strike at the Abkhazian army units close to the Naa settlement (the Gulripsh district) on Tuesday morning. Eye-witnesses said that about three Georgian attack aircraft had participated in the air strike. The Abkhazian side has not reached Tbilisi officials in connection with the incident yet, Arshba said. A large group of Georgian-Chechen fighters has recently downed a helicopter of UN observers and shot 14 civilians of the Armenian settlement of Naa in the Kodor Gorge.
