All the nine people who were aboard the helicopter which crashed Monday over the Kodorskoye gorge in Abkhazia, are killed. The helicopter belonged to the UN mission monitoring the situation in Georgia. This information was provided by Tatyana Guliya, the Press Secretary of the Abkhaz representation in Moscow. There were nine people aboard the aircraft: five UN observers, three crewmen and an Abkhaz interpreter. The helicopter was flying over the territory occupied by the militants acting in the area. The fighters had previously abandoned the village of Georgiyevskoye. In compliance with an agreement, the peacekeeping force patrol the zone. According to the Security Council of the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia, the militants are armed with grenade launchers, small arms, anti-tank and Strela-class portable anti-aircraft systems. The Armed Forces of Abkhazia are currently searching the crash site.
